Why Your Body Needs to Feel Safe To Heal - Nervous System Series Ep.1 of 4

Why Your Body Needs to Feel Safe to Heal

What if the next step in your health journey isn’t doing more—but learning how to slow down and listen to what your body is telling you? In this first episode of my October nervous system series, we’re laying the foundation for what nervous system regulation actually means and why it matters for our physical, emotional, relational, and spiritual health. We’ll talk about what can happen when our bodies spend too much time in a state of stress and “go, go, go”—and why simply sitting down or stopping for the day doesn’t always mean our bodies are truly resting and recovering. I also share some of my own experience with living in a constant state of busyness and overwhelm, along with the powerful connection between our regulation and our children. As moms, our stress can affect our kids, and their stress can affect us. The goal isn’t to be perfectly calm. It’s learning to recognize when we’re becoming overwhelmed, respond differently, repair when needed, and return to a place of regulation. In this episode, we talk about: - What nervous system regulation actually means - Fight-or-flight vs. rest, digest, and recovery - Signs your body may be carrying too much stress - Why resting and recovering aren’t always the same thing - The connection between a mother’s nervous system and her children - How chronic stress can show up in everyday life - Simple ways to create moments of safety and regulation - Why slowing down isn’t laziness—it can be an act of stewardship - The importance of rest, surrender, connection, prayer, and being present This week, I want you to simply begin noticing. **When do you feel rushed, overwhelmed, or activated? When do you feel peaceful, supported, and most like yourself?** And once a day, ask yourself: **What does my body need from me right now?** It may be water. Food. Movement. Sleep. Quiet. Prayer. Connection. A boundary. A few slow breaths. Or simply a moment to stop trying to fix everything. > “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28 Slowing down is not laziness. It is stewardship. Caring for yourself helps you remain healthy enough to show up for what God has called you to do.

This is just the beginning. Throughout October, we’ll continue exploring nervous system regulation, everyday stressors we may not recognize, the mother-child connection, and practical ways to support your nervous system in real life.

If this episode made you think of someone who needs this conversation, share it with her and follow **The Restored & Aligned Woman** so you don’t miss the rest of the series.
