“I’m Not Stressed.” (But Your Body Might Be Saying Otherwise)
There’s something I hear often: “I’m not stressed.” And many times, I believe her. She’s not panicked. She’s not falling apart. She’s functioning. But functioning and regulated are not the same thing. Many high-capacity women have adapted to chronic stress for so long that it feels normal.
Chronic stress doesn’t always show up as chaos. Sometimes it looks like productivity, responsibility, and pushing through. It looks like waking up already thinking, crashing mid-afternoon, and feeling wired at night. Over time, elevated cortisol begins to affect sleep, blood sugar stability, hormone balance, and even inflammation levels. The body adjusts to survive — but that adjustment comes at a cost.
When stress becomes baseline, we stop labeling it as stress. Instead, we say we’re “just busy” or “in a full season.” But the nervous system keeps the score. Subtle symptoms like brain fog, irritability, stubborn weight gain, and poor sleep are often signs that the body has been in protection mode for too long. This isn’t a mindset flaw — it’s physiology.
The good news is that the nervous system can be supported and gently retrained. Regulation is not weakness; it’s strength. If you want to begin calming your system this week, start small:
-
Start your morning without immediate input. Wait 10–15 minutes before checking your phone.
-
Eat protein within an hour of waking to stabilize blood sugar.
-
Practice one intentional exhale reset daily — inhale for four counts, exhale for six.
These aren’t dramatic overhauls — they’re signals of safety. And safety is what allows healing to begin.
If this resonates and you’re realizing your body may be carrying more stress than you thought, you don’t have to sort through it alone.
I offer consultations where we look at the full picture — physiology, stress patterns, and lifestyle — and create a clear next step forward.
If you’re ready to explore what support could look like for you, schedule a time to connect. I’d be honored to walk alongside you.
Have a Blessed Week!
With Love,
Nicole
